PROBLEM

Append tool duplicates records when the input has more than 1000 rows

Last Published: July 26, 2022

Description

This article provides a workaround when the Append (Data Management) tool in ArcMap duplicates records when the input contains more than 1000 rows.

Cause

Geometry and Spatial Indexes conflicts may cause the tool to fail.

Solution or Workaround

  1. Run the Check Geometry tool and note any conflicts with the layers. If found, run the Repair Geometry tool to fix the issues.
  2. Rebuild the Spatial Index:
    1. From the Catalog pane, right-click the layer.
    2. Click Properties > Indexes tab.
    3. Below the Spatial Index section, click Delete.
    4. Click Create and a new spatial index is generated.
    5. Click Apply and OK to close the window and save the changes.
