Adobe Illustrator can not save ArcMap .ai file

Description

Adobe Illustrator returns the following warning message when trying to save an ArcMap generated .ai file:

"You are saving this document in Adobe Illustrator 3.0/3.2 format. Saving this document in an older format may disable some editing features when the document is read back in."

Cause

ArcMap 8.x exports an earlier specification of the Adobe Illustrator (.ai) file format. Many features in the newer versions of Illustrator are not supported in this specification.

Solution or Workaround



In Illustrator, use File > Save As... to save the file. In the dialog box, select a more recent specification, such as Illustrator 9.0 or 10.

Note:
To use the Adobe Illustrator (.ai) export format in 8.1, download the ArcGIS 8.1 Service Pack 1.
