A type of network flow map that uses line or arrow symbols of variable width or color to show the direction, volume, and pattern of motor vehicle flow over time on existing routes. Traffic flow maps use data gathered from automatic traffic recorder (ATR) stations. Typical uses for traffic flow maps include route optimization and infrastructure planning.
