[symbology]
The process of changing a map's measurement methodology to another to ensure accuracy. Scale conversion can entail changing units of measurement between maps—such as a distance in English units to the equivalent in metric units, but more commonly requires converting ratios, such as converting a large scale map (1:1,000) to a small scale map (1:1,000,000).
