An image rendering technique that generates overlapping imagery and an associated point cloud composed of 3D ellipsoidal shapes (or points) known as splats. Gaussian splats each have a unique shape, position, orientation, color, transparency, and density that combine to simulate the appearance of real world objects. Gaussian splatting is notable for quickly producing photorealistic imagery that includes thin and complicated features, reflective lighting, and smooth image navigation.
