[map projections]
A secant case of the cylindrical equal-area projection that lessens shape distortion in higher latitudes by placing lines of tangency at 45° N and 45° S. The Gall-Peters projection is named for the Scottish cartographer and astronomer James Gall (1808 – 1895) and the German historian Arno Peters (1916 – 2022).
