Gall-Peters projection

  1. [map projections] A secant case of the cylindrical equal-area projection that lessens shape distortion in higher latitudes by placing lines of tangency at 45 degrees north and 45 degrees south. The Gall-Peters projection is named for Scottish cartographer and astronomer James Gall (1808–1895) and German historian Arno Peters (1916–2002).
