A torus (donut)-shaped compromise perspective map projection that is neither conformal nor equal area. Developed and presented in 1943 by Hungarian-American cartographer Erwin Raisz (1893–1968) as part of a series of orthoapsidal map designs. Orthoapsidal is a term invented by Raisz to indicate projections that are a combination of orthographic and apsidal (or apsis).
