The current report syntax to display a web map, e.g. ${geopoint1 | map:""}, is designed to use the web map as a "reference map" under the geometry (e.g., blue pin) collected by the survey. That is to say the main purpose is still to display the survey geometry (blue pin). There is no plan to use the geopoint question in the survey as an entry point ${geopoint1 | ...} but apply a transparency to hide it. Instead, Esri is planning to support a new syntax in the report template to display a web map directly without involving any survey questions. This fits the purpose where the user makes a web map ready with the collected data and only wants to display the web map in the report.

Alternate Workflow

  1. Create a new hosted layer.
  2. Open the layer in Map Viewer Classic.
  3. Edit layer style and set the transparency to 100%.
  4. Save the layer.
  5. Get the layer URL from item details page of the layer.
  6. Add the URL as the drawingInfo parameter to your report template syntax.
