Within ArcMap, editing a subtype description containing a period or comma results in the following error message: "This number field does not have any scale, thus you can't enter a floating point number."

Workaround

Within ArcMap, you can successfully edit a subtype description containing a period or comma by opening the Attribute Table for the feature class > choose Options > Choose Appearance > Uncheck coded value domain and subtype descriptions. Then complete the edits within the attribute table, and save edits. Finally go back to > Options > Choose Appearance > Check coded value domain and subtype descriptions.
