With a large number of grids or points (2,000,000+), the Select by Rectangle tool rounds out the corners of the selected features.

Workaround

  1. Create a blank polygon feature class to draw a rectangle that encompasses the points users wish to select.
  2. After the rectangle is created, complete a Select by Location whereby users must select features from the points that have their centroid in the rectangle.
