When using the Intersect geoprocessing tool and setting the output feature class location to outside of a geodatabase (saving as a Shapefile), the points layer has a symbology of polygon layer in the Contents pane, but the correct point symbology in the Map pane in ArcGIS Pro 2.9.

Additional Information

This issue is not reproducible in ArcGIS Pro 3.2.

Workaround

To change the symbology type to Point, import another point file that displays correctly and import symbology from there to the layer output from the Intersect tool.

  1. Import a point shapefile that displays as point in the Contents pane.
  2. Open the symbology for the shapefile with the incorrect display.
  3. In the Symbology pane, click Import Symbology.
  4. Select the shapefile displaying as point for the Symbology Layer.
  5. Keep all other parameters default and click Run.
  6. Once completed, the shapefile displays as a point. Update the symbology for the shapefile,
