When using the Generate Token operation for ArcGIS Online hosted feature layers and not explicitly setting the expiration, tokens last for a default of two hours rather than an hour.

Workaround

Explicitly set 'expiration=<number of minutes>' in the http/post request to the generateToken endpoint.
