When using the Create Feature Class or 'Add to Feature Class' option from the Locate tool results in ArcGIS Pro, the following error may is returned: "Error adding location. Ensure you are signed in to ArcGIS Online and have geocoding privileges.". This message is displayed even when the active portal is ArcGIS Online, and the user has the necessary geocoding privileges.

Workaround

  1. Refresh the Locators:
    1. In the Catalog pane, right-click the folder containing the locator(s) and select Refresh.
    2. Retry the workflow.
  2. Reopen the Locate Pane:
    1. If the error persists, close the Locate pane and reopen it.
  3. Verify Geocoding Service Availability:
    1. Ensure that the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service is available in your ArcGIS Online organization.
    2. Refer to this documentation https://support.esri.com/en-us/knowledge-base/problem-arcgis-world-geocoding-service-does-not-display-000020635 for more information.
  4. Roll Back to ArcGIS Pro 3.4:
    1. If the issue continues, consider rolling back to ArcGIS Pro 3.4, where this behavior may not occur.
  5. Manually add the ArcGIS Server connection to geocode.arcgis.com while connected to ArcGIS Online and refreshing the Locator folder from the Catalog Pane.
