Additional Information

The development team has considered the issue or request and concluded it will not be addressed in the current release cycle. If this is still a concern, contact Esri Support Services.

Workaround

  1. Extract files from the renamed service definition file to a new folder.
  2. Open the serviceconfiguration.json file in Notepad or Wordpad.
  3. Change serviceName to the name of the service definition and save the file.
  4. Zip up all of the files within this folder and rename them to the service definition name, then change the extension to .SD.
  5. Upload this new .SD file to ArcGIS Online through the browser, and the service name must match the service definition name.
    1. If uploading using the Upload Service Definition geoprocessing tool in ArcGIS for Desktop, the layer and service definition in My Content shows the original or incorrect name. However, the service URL shows the modified service name. The layer and service definition names can be changed in the item's details.
