When the Active Directory (AD) connection is lost, AD users are randomly dropped from Portal for ArcGIS groups that are created from AD groups.

Workaround

When users are no longer showing in Portal for ArcGIS groups after the Active Directory connection is lost, access to Portal admin > Home > Security > Users > Refresh membership.
