Known Limit
After review by the development team, it has been determined that this issue is related to a known limitation with the software that lies outside of Esri's control. The issue's Additional Information section may contain further explanation.
Additional Information
Thanks for submitting this and sorry about the issue. This is a known limitation with the Shortlist beta, but is definitely flagged for future longer term improvement. The UI control we are using on mobile OS (especially iOS) sometimes isn't as good as we would like at handling large images. We sometimes found users experienced crashes in Safari. So to help avoid this we made the change to automatically just use the thumbnail image for all images on mobile devices to improve performance and stability. So when you tap on a place to open it on a mobile device, the description panel contains the thumbnail image, not the main image. Authors who are purposefully using different image content for their thumbnail, such as a logo, compared to their main image, will therefore notice this difference. Users may also notice that the image they see in the description panel may not fill the area available for it, especially on larger mobile devices like iPads. We'll eventually be changing this architecture in future development that is planned for this app for the next 12 months timeframe, but not in the current beta version.
Workaround
In the Chrome browser (for mobile devices), enable the option for 'Request desktop site'.
