Bug
When running a stand-alone script using arcpy.Describe function, the script fails in 10.0 SP5 with IOError: "layername" does not exist.

Workaround
Run the Describe function as a script tool or within the Python window in ArcMap.1. Open test10.mxd2. Paste Python code into Python window > press Enter (the code will run but will not show anything).Or1. Open test10.mxd.2. Navigate to the i8701 folder within the Catalog window.3. Right-click i8701 window and choose New > Toolbox.4. Name it Scripttest.tbx.5. Right-click Scripttest.tbx > Add > Script.6. Change the Name and Label to Scripttest > choose Next.7. Browse to and select the <a href="http://testDescribe100.py" target="_blank">testDescribe100.py</a> script > choose Open > Next > Finish.8. Double-click "testDescribe100" to open the tool > click OK.9. Tool should execute successfully.Steps to Reproduce
