When running a Python script from CMD in a virtual machine (VM), Python gets stuck in the background process, and it is necessary to end the task from Task Manager.

Description
ArcPy fails on VMs using VMWare Tools 11.1 and later.
Cause
The SVGA Driver installed with VMWare Tools 11.1 and later versions causes ArcPy to stop responding.
Both VMWare and Esri are aware of the issue and are working towards a permanent solution.
Workaround
Use an earlier version of the SVGA Driver. If upgrading from an earlier version of VMWare Tools, opt not to install the driver:
Otherwise, revert to version 11.0.6 and then upgrade, again choosing not to install the SVGA Driver.
