Workaround

For referenced web layers

  1. Remove the symbology and overwrite the feature service.
  2. Reset the symbology for the service in Portal by navigating to the Visualization tab for the service and edit the layer style.
  3. After reconfiguring, click Save Layer.

There are some drawbacks to overwriting. Any pop-ups or symbology configured after publishing is wiped. For more information on the considerations for overwriting, refer to: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/sharing/overview/overwrite-a-web-layer.htm.

For copied web layers

  1. Set the symbology for the service in Portal for ArcGIS to display 'location only' by navigating to the Visualization tab for the service and edit the layer style.
  2. After reconfiguring, click Save Layer. The field reflects the original values.
  3. If desired, reset the symbology back to unique values by editing the layer style again. Labels can be re-entered and this does not affect the values shown in the fields of the service.
