When loading the (.jp2) raster NorthAmerica_South_150m_Earthsat on the ESRI Data and Maps Global Imagery and Shaded Relief 9.3 DVD to a File or ArcSDE geodatabase using the default pyramid and statistics builds, the cell sizes are changed and the image is skewed and stretched.

Workaround

Opening the locally stored .jp2 image in an ArcMap session and exporting to a .img or GRID and then importing to a File or ArcSDE geodatabase allows the raster to import correctly with correct cell sizes and proportions.
