Additional Information

This is a known limitation for all versions of Portal for ArcGIS and essentially a duplicate of BUG-000109624. For non-hosted ArcGIS Server feature services (federated or manually registered with the Portal), symbology updates made in the Map Viewer are saved to the item and/or web map json. The types and templates for the service are not updated as this information is stored on the service itself. When in editing mode, the Map Viewer utilizes the types and templates information listed on the service. Hosted feature layers allow users to edit and update types and templates on the service via the Map Viewer. From hosted feature layers, users can also create hosted feature layer views. Each view can be setup with different symbologies, types, and templates to provide multiple editing configurations for the various users and work-groups within an organization.
