Description

Note:
This bug has been fixed at ArcGIS 9.3 Service Pack 1.

ArcGIS Server Manager 9.3 has a wizard to configure security. The Manager user may use Microsoft SQL Server as the location for users and roles.

In the wizard panel for specifying the SQL Server, the user enters the server name, and then connects to the server. If the option to 'Use trusted connection' is unchecked, then the connection uses a SQL login that is defined in the database. If this option is used and the password contains an ampersand (&) character, then the wizard will fail when attempting to finish the configuration.

The error message may contain a statement such as:

- "Unterminated string passed in"

-or-

- "Length cannot be less than zero."

Cause

A bug in the Manager wizard causes an error when the SQL login password contains an ampersand (&) character.

Workaround

  • As a workaround, change the password so that it does not contain any ampersand (&) characters.
