When ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 is connected to an SQL server geodatabase using long names with a (.) the following error is returned: "Failed to connect to database. Underlying DBMS error [Unknown error No extended error.]".

User names are limited to 31 charactersWorkaround
The database user name does not have to match the login name. The 'CONFIG26094VM0\' can be safely removed from the user name, as long as the name of the database user is 31 characters or less, it can connect successfully.Steps to Reproduce
