Bug

When an SLPK is uploaded to ArcGIS Online and loaded as a hosted scene layer into a local scene it looks distorted and compressed. However, in a global scene this does not happen, the building looks correct.

Additional Information

The local scene mode uses a projected coordinate system (or spatial reference (SR)) to display data on the planar plan. Projecting from a spherical coordinate system to a projected (cartesian) SR always results in errors or distortions. The choice of SR for a specific case or region can minimize the distortion.   In the case at hand, the tower height is the same in local and global modes; however, the xy dimensions are 'stretched' (larger) in local mode with the SR web mercator, hence the tower appears compressed compared to global mode.

Workaround

Suggested approach:

  • Instead of a web mercator, use a projected spatial reference (SR) that has less distortion or error in the area of interest. Note that all data must be prepared and published in this SR, including the basemap if needed.
  • Use the global scene mode.
