When accessing federated ArcGIS Server layers using the HTTP protocol from Manage Items in Portal for ArcGIS, the following error message returns, "Unable to establish a secure connection to the layer. The layer, [layername], cannot be added to the map."

Workaround

Update the config.js httpsDomains listing setting to include the federated server. Portal for ArcGIS installation directory>\customizations\<version number>\webapps\arcgis#home\js\arcgisonline\config.js // Switch services with these domains to https if the map viewer is running under https and also count as federated servers with ArcGIS Online httpsDomains: ["arcgis.com","arcgisonline.com","esrikr.com","premiumservices.blackbridge.com","esripremium.accuweather.com","gbm.digitalglobe.com","firstlook.digitalglobe.com","msi.digitalglobe.com"],
