When a shapefile created with the Shift-JIS encoding is consumed with iOS Runtime, field names and attribute values containing Japanese characters are null.

Additional Information

The shapefile is using the JIS character set with Microsoft's 932 codepage extension to the Shift_JIS encoding. While Mac does have a Shift_JIS encoding, they created a separate extension from what Microsoft created, and the two are not interchangeable. The data needs to be exported in UTF-8 using ArcGIS 10.2.1 or greater so that it can be used cross-platform.
