Bug

When a null default value is assigned to a field for a subtype that is not the default subtype for the feature class, the editing Feature Template replaces the null value with the default subtype's default value for this field.

Workaround

1) In ArcMap, right-click the layer and choose Edit Features > Organize Feature Templates.2) In the Organize Feature Templates window, right-click the template for the subtype that requires the null default value and choose Properties. (If the layer does not have templates, click New Template and complete the Create New Templates Wizard for this layer.)3) In the Template Properties dialog box, clear the value for the field, click Apply and click OK. Now the default value for this field will be null.
