Additional Information
The behavior of the software when splitting a destination feature is to maintain the foreign key value only if the relationship is composite.
The documentation defect of the missing statement will be updated to reflect this behavior.
"When splitting a destination feature in a composite relationship, the relationship between the original feature and the related origin objects is not deleted. New relationships are created between the origin objects and the new feature that is a result of the split."
Workaround
Manually populate the primary key ID in the field.
