When a CSV file containing unique values is published to ArcGIS Online, the unique value validation (Item details > Data > Field) fails over text fields.

Workaround

  1. From ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, export the CSV file to a file geodatabase.
  2. Publish to ArcGIS Online.
