Using the query layer created by the Make Query Layer geoprocessing tool as the input for the Make XY Event Layer geoprocessing Tool returns the error message: "Error 000223: Cannot extract event table properties."

Note that ArcGIS 10.8.2 is the current release of ArcGIS Desktop and will enter Mature Support in March 2024 (https://support.esri.com/en-us/products/arcmap/life-cycle). There are no plans to release an ArcGIS Desktop 10.9, and we recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro. Workaround

Do not use the Make Query Layer and the Make XY Event Layer geoprocessing tools for the same table.

 

There are two workarounds for this issue:

 

  1. Create a query layer using the menu. Navigate to File > Add Data > Add Query Layer, and use the Make XY Event Layer geoprocessing tool.
  2.  Use the Make Query Layer geoprocessing tool, right-click the layer in the Table of Content, and click Display XY Data.
