Using the Copy tool to copy to or from a mapped network drive while Background Geoprocessing is enabled, returns the error "ERROR 001143: Background server threw an exception.".

Additional Information

Reading/Writing dirctly to the root node of a mapped drive (ie z:\.) is problematic. Always write into a folder (ie z:\data\.) then all works .

Workaround

-Disable Background Geoprocessing.-Use the UNC paths instead of a mapped network drive.-Run a Python script outside of ArcMap.
