Bug

Upgrading from FGDC metadata to ArcGIS Metadata and using the ESRI Metadata Translator (ArcGIS2FGDC translation method) strips information and results in lost documentation, which can cause errors when running the MP Metadata Translator.

Workaround

One alternative would be to edit the data using the FGDC editor and not use the ArcGIS Metadata format at all. However, this defeats the purpose for the ArcGIS Metadata Translator tool and for working with the ArcGIS metadata format... The other alternative would be to upgrade metadata, converting from FGDC to ArcGIS Metadata, then make edits, then translate back to FGDC, then re-add the portions of the metadata that were deleted. This is not ideal due to the possible introduction of omission and the fact that it is needless extra work.
