Upgrading ArcGIS Notebook Server on Linux to versions 11.3 or 11.4 results in the deletion of the configuration store and server directories, which may render the site inaccessible.

Workaround

It is recommended following these steps before performing ArcGIS Notebook Server on Linux upgrade to 11.3 or 11.4. Familiarize with the upgrade process by reviewing the preparation steps in the following document: https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/notebook/latest/install/linux/upgrade-arcgis-notebook-server.htm

  1. Move the Workspace Directory. Follow the instructions in the same document to relocate the workspace directory.
  2. Update configuration store directory using ArcGIS Notebooks Server Manager. Sign in to your ArcGIS Enterprise portal as an administrator. Open the ArcGIS Notebook Server Manager.
  3. Update Configuration Store. Click on the Settings tab. Select Configuration Store. Check if the configuration store is located under the Notebook Server installation directory (e.g., /installation_directory/arcgis/notebookserver/usr/config-store). If it is, move the configuration store to an external location. Update the path to the new location, e.g., /installation_directory/arcgisnotebookserver/usr/config-store. Select Yes to move the current configuration and click Save.
  4. Update Server Directories. Click on Directories in the left pane. Verify if the arcgisoutput, arcgisjobs, and arcgissystem directories are under the installation directory (e.g., /installation_directory/arcgis/notebookserver/usr/directories). If they are, move them to an external location. For each directory: Click Edit and update the path to the new location (e.g., /installation_directory/arcgisnotebookserver/usr/directories/arcgisoutput). Click Save and repeat for arcgisjobs and arcgissystem.
  5. Update Logs Directory. Click on Logs in the left pane. Check if the Logs directory is under the installation directory (e.g., /installation_directory/arcgis/notebookserver/logs). If it is, move it to an external location. Update the path to the new location (e.g., /installation_directory/arcgisnotebookserver/logs). Click Save and manually copy all contents from the old logs directory to the new location.
  6. Backup Deployment Follow the backup steps outlined in the following document https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/notebook/latest/install/linux/upgrade-arcgis-notebook-server.htm.
  7. Perform Upgrade Upgrade ArcGIS Notebook Server to version 11.3 or 11.4 using the setup program or command line, following the steps in the document https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/notebook/latest/install/linux/upgrade-arcgis-notebook-server.htmI.
