Workaround

This behavior is as designed and occurs because applying the expression to the layer's symbology creates unique value symbol classes for all expression-returned values that currently exist in the layer, and the 'Other' category is not checked by default, so there is no symbology created for values that do not match the existing values. The feature created used a combination of values for the two fields not used prior to applying the symbology or expression, which is why the feature is not symbolized in the web map.

To avoid this, utilize the following workflows:

  • Check the 'Other' category when the symbology is first updated (so that any new points with new values are added with some form of symbology). Then, navigate to Styles > Style Options under the Unique Values style, and use the 'Move Value Out' option to create a symbol class for the newly created value.
    • moveout.png
  • To avoid having to create symbol classes for new values as they are created, create symbol classes for all potential expression-returned values when the symbology/expression is first applied.
    • AddValue.png
