Unable to successfully open map documents in 10 resaved in a previous version that contain unreferenced inserted images in the data frame; receive error 'Opening the selected ArcMap document failed. The data frames of the map document could not be read.'

Workaround

Open the MXD back in the previous version and a) re-reference the inserted picture or b) delete the picture. In 10, delete the affected data frame and recreate it.
