Unable to insert data manually into a Double data type field with 'precision' set to 38 and 'scale' set to 2 in an ArcSDE geodatabase for SQL Server (or Oracle). Error - This number field can only have 36 digit(s) to the left of the decimal point.

As of September 2016, we have no plans to address this issue.

Workaround

This error only occurs when editing in the table. The workflow is fine when using the attribute dialog. Use the Field Calculator to add data in the column. Create a new field with the corresponding values that are needed, and use the Field Calculator on the problematic field as: Problematic field = new field.
