Additional Information
Deleting any ArcGIS Hub-related items and groups directly from ArcGIS Online (outside the ArcGIS Hub interface) is known to cause unexpected behavior or breakage within ArcGIS Hub, and therefore not recommended and is not a supported workflow. The behavior of errors being returned when attempting to delete an event from ArcGIS Hub after the delete-protected ArcGIS Online group associated with this event was deleted, is therefore a known limit.
The recommended workflow is to directly delete the Event from within the ArcGIS Hub interface, which will also delete the associated group in ArcGIS Online.
However, if the ArcGIS Online group associated with the Hub Event was accidentally deleted somehow, causing errors when attempting to delete an Event from within ArcGIS Hub, contact Esri Support Services.
Workaround
By navigating to the Hub_events feature service created in the ArcGIS Online organization, open the Data tab, and locate the specific canceled event feature.
Opening the Hub_events primary layer (not the view) in Map Viewer Classic as an admin with full editing control allows deleting the canceled hub event from the service, and this removes it from the ArcGIS Hub site permanently.
