Additional Information
The upcoming ArcGIS Online update includes a fix to prevent errors when working with source URLs of private hosted feature layers. Beginning with the next update, saving credentials is required when adding private URLs hosted in ArcGIS Online. If this requirement raises concerns, contact Esri Support Services for assistance.
Workaround
Share the private ArcGIS Online hosted feature layer with the other ArcGIS Online organization's account through a group store credentials when adding the hosted feature layer's source URL to the organization.
- Log in to an ArcGIS Online organizational account.
- Open the item details page for the hosted feature layer hosted in the organization with a private sharing level.
- Scroll to the bottom of the item details page and copy the URL at the bottom right.
- Log in to the other ArcGIS Online organization's account (the two accounts must not be in the same organization).
- Click the Content tab and click New item.
- Click URL.
- Toggle on the switch next to Store credentials with service item and click Next.
- Provide the credentials with access the private ArcGIS Online hosted feature layer and click Next.
A referenced layer using the private source layer can now be created. However, the item stores credentials and does not prompt for authentication when someone with access to the referenced item opens it.
