Transferring ownership of an item in ArcGIS Online prompts an incorrect 'Owner successfully changed' message when the item is shared to a group with the new owner who is not a member.

This is working as designed. The transfer fails as expected because the recipient is not a member of the group the item is shared with. Add the recipient to the group to resolve this. The success message was an error and will be fixed with the June 2025 update.Workaround
- If the custom role has the admin privilege to reassign ownership, the user gets an error message explaining why the item cannot be reassigned.
- If the items sharing levels are lowered to Owner and all group sharing is removed, the item can then be transferred.
Updated (05/29/2025): Add the recipient to the group and then transfer ownership of the item.
