Workaround

Refer to the following article to identify and drop the gdb_items spatial index:

The bug: Invalid spatial reference (4326) set when inserting/updating the sde gdb_items table when modifying the content for upgraded ArcGIS 10.0 geodatabases

<a href="http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/42335" target="_blank">http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/42335</a>

After dropping the spatial index, the feature class can be created successfully and the Upgrade Geodatabase button is unavailable.
