The Project tool fails in Python with error 000517 "The coordinate system is not defined for the input dataset. Failed to execute (Project)." when using the in_coor_system parameter that is needed when an unknown coordinate system is set on the input dataset.

Use the Define Projection tool before the Project tool when using Python.
