The Project tool automatically adds a ‘.shp’ suffix for the output feature class when using the inline workspace variable created with the Create File Geodatabase tool in ModelBuilder.

Workaround

1. Use the environment variable output coordinate system in the Copy Features tool to project the data to a new coordinate system2. Remove the suffix and execute Project, without saving or modifying the model.3. Create a file geodatabase outside the model and then create a workspace variable in the model.
