Bug

The output JPG file from the default printing tool in ArcGIS Server 10.6.1 has a larger file size than the output JPG file from ArcGIS Server 10.3.1. This is possibly caused by the change in the JPG compression ratio.

Additional Information

Print service is designed to produce high quality output; hence the jpeg output quality is set to 100 by default in the print service. If a different quality setting is desired, publish a custom print service based off existing ExportWebMap geoprocessing tool. Modify .py script and set the jpeg's output quality to 80 to have results comparable to print service based off ArcMap runtime.

Workaround

  • For image service, refer to https://developers.arcgis.com/javascript/latest/api-reference/esri-layers-ImageryLayer.html#format for more information.
  • Consider using lower dots per inch (dpi) for smaller image sizes.
