The map element part of an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service (WMS) URL from an OSGeo MapServer is dropped when adding the WMS to an ArcGIS Online web map.

The development team has considered the issue or request and concluded it will not be addressed in the current release cycle. If this is still a concern, contact Esri Support Services.

Workaround

  1. Open ArcGIS.com.
  2. Navigate to Content > Add Item > From a URL.
  3. In the Add an item from the web window, select WMS (OGC).
  4. For the URL parameter, type "https://mapserver.rsgis.msu.edu/mapserver?Map=C:/MapServer/apps/ingham/parcel_data_layers_2020.map", add a Tag, and click Add Item.
  5. On the item details page of the WMS layer, click Open in Map Viewer.
  6. In the web map, click the three dots, and select WMS OGC Options.
  7. Select Add Parameters link, in the Parameter column, type "MAP".
  8. In the Value column, type "C:/MapServer/apps/ingham/parcel_data_layers_2020.map".
  9. Click More Options > Save Layer.
