....This behavior is as designed.The Manage Tile Cache tool generates cache on the basis of supertiles. So, if we provide an AOI smaller than the supertile, then the cache is generated for the entire supertile and not just for the AOI. Also if we provide an AOI that intersects two supertiles, then the cache would be generated for both those supertiles. The server cache tools also generate cache using the same principle.You can use the Map Server Cache Tiling Scheme To Polygons tool to view the supertiles that will be used during the caching process.The Export Tile Cache tool, on the other hand, supports pixel level clipping when we use an AOI.

Workaround

  1. Open the Map properties.
  2. Set the AOI layer as the Clip Layer.
  3. Apply the 'Clip to an Outline' option.
