The "invalid geometry" error occurs when using pg_restore method to move data to a new PostgreSQL instance version.

Workaround

1. Create a new, empty 10.5 geodatabase on a 9.5 PG instance. 2. Connect to the original 10.3.1 geodatabsae on the 9.3 PG instance, and the new 10.5 geodatabase on 9.5 PG instance from the same 10.5 ArcCatalog. 3. Copy and paste the data from the old instance into the new instance. When users do this users do see a feature class "orangutan habitat" that has self intersecting lines, but this can be fixed with a Repair geometry.
