The GUID that is generated when you click the Create button on the Metadata Details page isn't saved in the file identifier element.

Workaround
1. Edit an item's metadata.2. Click the Metadata > Details page. 3. Click Create on the Metadata Details page. A GUID appears in the file identifier text box.4. Select the value that was generated (Ctrl-A) and press Ctrl-C to copy it.5. Delete the GUID in the file identifier text box.6. Paste the copied GUID into the file identifier text box.7. Click Save. >> The value is saved -- the file identifier appears under the Metadata Details heading in the metadata display.
