The file size of the clipped TIN layer increased after clipping it with a polygon feature using the Edit TIN tool.

Additional Information

This is by design. A clip polygon added to a TIN enforces the boundary of the polygon in the TIN and flags the triangles outside the polygon as 'NoData'. It does not delete nodes or triangles outside the polygon. Consequently, the size of the TIN on disk does not get smaller.

Workaround

  1. Use only the data needed for the TIN when creating it. Alternately, convert the clipped TIN layer to a raster using the TIN To Raster tool. 
  2. Create the raster to TIN using the Raster to TIN tool.
