Workaround

This workaround will work for .shp files (applicable to all formats after export feature classes to .shp).1) In ArcCatalog, create the metadata, using the preferred role title.2) Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder containing the metadata.3) Copy and rename the XML file with the .shp.xml extension.4) Rename the file.5) Remove the .shp from the file name. 6) Go back to ArcCatalog and refresh the catalog tree. Check the updated XML file with the correct ‘role’ title.
