The Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool allows users to create a geodatabase in the default postgres database, but a direct connection does not work with the postgres database.

Workaround

It is not recommended to work in a system database. It is by design that ArcGIS Desktop cannot make a connection to one. Therefore, the Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool must not be run in the postgres database.Geodatabase system tables must be dropped in the postgres database, if this is done.
